Tips for Better Replays

Getting your GPX file

  • Garmin Connect: Open an activity → gear icon → Export to GPX
  • Strava: Open an activity on the web → "…" menu → Export GPX
  • Coros / Suunto / Polar: Most have a GPX export option in their web dashboard
  • Higher GPS recording frequency (1s vs smart) gives smoother routes

City runs

These look the best. Streets and buildings give the map depth at the 3D pitch, and the camera follow mode works great on roads that go somewhere. Satellite mode adds a nice touch in areas with parks or water.

Track workouts

Running laps on a 300–400m track? The camera detects loops automatically and holds its angle instead of trying to chase every turn. It won't look as cinematic as a city run, but it stays stable. Satellite view helps here since you can see the track oval.

Cycling

Toggle Bicycle mode for a wider camera zoom, 5 km markers instead of 1 km, and longer video durations that match typical ride distances.

Settings that matter

  • Follow Me makes or breaks the video. Off = static bird's-eye view. On = camera tracks you in 3D. Try both.
  • Duration is auto-calculated from your distance but you can override it. Shorter = more dramatic, longer = easier to read the stats.
  • Satellite is great for trails, parks, and coastal routes. In dense cities the regular map is usually cleaner.
  • Trail color — pick something that contrasts your route. Cyan on dark map, Magenta on satellite, etc.

Sharing

The video is recorded in 9:16 portrait by default — made for Instagram Stories and Reels. If you want landscape for YouTube or Twitter, turn off Portrait mode. The file is an MP4 on most browsers (Safari falls back to WebM).

Image Creator

Switch to the Image tab after loading a GPX to generate a stats card instead of a video. A few tips:

  • Square (1:1) is great for Instagram feed posts and Twitter; Portrait (9:16) fills an Instagram Story.
  • Add a custom Run Name (e.g. "Paris Marathon") — it becomes the headline of the card.
  • Toggle Map Backdrop on to overlay your route on the card. It looks best with a dark background preset.
  • Heart rate, cadence, and speed stats only appear when your GPX contains that data (Garmin and Coros exports usually do; Strava re-exports may strip it).
  • Pick an accent colour that contrasts the background — Cyan on dark gradients, Orange or Pink on the Lava preset.
